How can I tell if my baby’s cloth diaper is wet?

Knowing when to change your baby’s cloth diaper isn’t a tough job. There is the normal 2-3 hour rule of thumb you can always go by, but if you’re concerned and want to be as careful to prevent leaks and be as careful as possible, then you’ll want to know a few ways to tell if your baby needs a change. This is especially important as some diapers, such as the Bayrli Inner diaper when paired with a Cover, will easily last many, many hours. 

The first way to tell is to know how the diaper feels and looks when it first goes on your baby nice and dry. A normal cloth diaper will feel a bit soft and squishy depending on what type of diaper it is and once your baby has dirtied or peed in the diaper, it can feel a bit warm and hard to the touch as the absorbency has collected all of the liquid and become saturated.

A second way to tell is to just sneak a quick peek. Grab that little wriggly monster and peek inside of the legs or pop your finger onto the absorbent fabrics inside and see if they feel sodden. If they do, make sure to wash your hands and change your baby!

If your baby has peed it’s time to change the diaper and grab a new one. This will keep the germs and bacteria away from baby’s private area and helps prevent yeast infections and diaper rash.
